Every year on July 20 Argentina celebrates Friendship Day. Inspiration came to its creator, Argentine Enrique Ernesto Febbraro, while he watched the first Apollo 11 moon landing in 1968. He tried to connect with people around the world through a letter writing campaign using his contacts at Rotary Club. In his own words: “I experienced the moon landing as a gesture of friendship towards the universe and at the same time I told myself that a town of friends would be an unbeatable nation. Then it was decided: 20th of July is the chosen day!” He sent out 1,000 letters to over 100 countries around the world in an effort to establish July 20 as Friend’s Day and was surprised to receive 700 letters in return.
This year, with many places of our country under strict quarantine, and all the COVID-19 restrictions, we virtually wish our friends a happy friends day and recommend you to meet using all the virtual tools we have nowadays.
